DNA testing in pregnancy can be done by various ways and the main ways are invasive and noninvasive tests. In a noninvasive test, there is no use of any surgical instrument. • Noninvasive DNA Paternity Test

This testing is done without any surgical instrument. In this testing, blood is taken from mother and father. In mother, blood sample is drawn whereas for father, cheek swab is used for a sample. Mother’s sample which consists of free-floating fetal DNAs,taken from plasma and then compared to the own DNA profile of mother. Both samples are tested in a lab and then results come out like any genetic abnormality or a paternity confirmation.

• Invasive DNA testing

This testing involves the needles or surgical instruments. The main two processes are done in this testing: CVS and Amniocentesis.

CVS (Chorionic Villus Sampling) test is performed during 10-13^th weeks. Here, a thin tube in inserted into the vagina. With the help of ultrasound, this device is guided into the cervix where it collects tissue from Chorionic Villi. These chorionic villi are tiny finger shaped. From this, DNA is extracted in a lab. This sample is then compared to the possible father and mother. This process also can be done by passing a needle through the wall of abdomen.

Amniocentesis includes extraction of sample of fluid from the amniotic sac. This test takes long time, approximately 45 minutes. This test is also used to check the chromosome abnormalities or genetic disorders like Cystic fibrosis, Spina bifida or Down syndrome problems in a baby.
